Derek Han
Derek is the Chairman of NSBO, bringing over 25 years of experience in finance.
He began his banking career in 1985 as a foreign exchange adviser to Frema Invest SA, an asset management company in Lugano. In 1989, he was actively involved in the sale of Nordica SpA, the Italian ski boot manufacturer, to the Benetton Group.
Derek founded a Zurich based private bank in 2000 which he chaired until its merger with Banque SCS Alliance SA in 2003. He has also served on the Board of INEO, a Swiss venture capital company specialising in pharmaceutical and medical applications, and as Managing Director of an Italian real estate firm.
Derek joined Blue Oak Capital in London as a Partner and Board member and became Chairman and CEO in 2008. He oversaw the formation of a joint venture in China with LDC, the private equity arm of the Lloyds Banking Group. Derek has strong relationships at senior levels in China and currently serves as a member of the International Advisory Board for the China Securities Journal.
Derek is a frequent economic commentator for CNBC Europe, Bloomberg Television, Channel News Asia as well as a contributor to China Daily and Global Times. In addition to his career in Banking, Derek has a celebrated career as an international concert pianist.
Richard Abrahams
Richard Abrahams is joint Chief Executive Officer of NSBO and has spent over 30 years working in trading, sales and management.
Richard was co-founder and CEO of Pali International for over six years, creating a leading event-driven research and execution boutique, with revenues of over $35m and offices in London, Edinburgh and Singapore. Prior to Pali and NBSO, Richard was CEO of Equities at HSBC where under his management, revenues rose from $7m to $100m over a four year period. From 1990 to 1995, Richard was Head of Trading at Natwest Markets, during which time the firm became the highest ranking foreign-owned equity broker in the US.
Laurie Pinto
Laurie Pinto is joint Chief Executive Officer of NSBO and has over 25 years of experience in the financial markets.
Prior to NSBO, Laurie was Chairman and Head of Sales at Pali International, the leading event-driven research and execution firm he co-founded with Richard Abrahams. He has held several trading and senior management positions at securities firms, including acting as head of hedge funds at Commerzbank, Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson. He also managed the European fund-of-funds business for Mesirow Financial.
Laurie is a frequent guest speaker and commentator on China related business and political affairs.
